How We Ranked The Best CBD Oil Brands For Dogs
We look at the different kinds of CBD oils for dogs and rank them based on a few things, namely the amount of THC it consists of, the type of testing that the CBD oils for dogs are taken forward, and the kind of health claims each CBD company has in its product descriptions.
THC can be harmful to dogs, even in minor doses, so it is imperative to seek products with little to no THC so as not to harm your pet in the long run. The type of testing a company allows on its products speaks a thousand words. For example, SimpleWag employees test their products on their dogs because that is their faith and reassurance towards the product they are developing.
It is always good to go for CBD oils tested with complete transparency. Lastly, we also look at the alternate health benefits of each CBD oil for dogs. If the company makes significant, sweeping claims, it is best to be wary of that as it may be false advertising. However, if the ingredient list has components that are additionally beneficial for your pet, such as Omega-3, antioxidants, etc., it is a product worth considering.
The best CBD oil for dogs comes from reputed manufacturers, transparent about their product development techniques and testing processes. High-quality CBD products can come from both marijuana and organic hemp seed oil. However, CBD products developed from marijuana contain higher quantities of THC, which are unsafe for dogs, so it is always advisable to look at the percentage of THC each product has before purchase.
What is important to note is how these components are finalized into a product void of any substances that may be harmful to your pet. CBD oil products which are organic, vegan, dairy-free, and potentially also contain vitamins, are suitable for your pet. These are high-quality CBD products that manufacturers make honest claims about.
It is essential to choose your product from a manufacturer who is entirely transparent in their product development – they are the ones who have earned their reputation in the promise of keeping your pet free of any harm.
Pet owners are anxious about choosing CBD oil products for their dogs. Transparency by honest and reputed manufacturers is of utmost importance in this case. The best CBD oil for dogs can be identified through the nature of the product, namely the ones which contain organic hemp seed oil and are cruelty-free.
Organic CBD oil for dogs is the one that does not contain toxins like propylene glycol, which a lot of these products tend to have. While selecting your CBD brand, do go through their list of ingredients. Full or broad-spectrum oils made using CO2 extraction are safe for dogs. Also, always look for a Certificate of Analysis (COA) while selecting your product.
If there is no COA provided in the product description, it is a product worth avoiding. A COA is a guarantee of safety and transparency.
Dosage of CBD
All the CBD oils come with a concentration expressed in milligrams (mg). How much CBD oil a dog can ingest is based on its weight. Pet owners should stick to the recommended dosage of hemp seed oil, which is 0.05-0.25mg/pound of body weight, twice a day. It is also recommended to start low, which is at 0.05mg. If it works, then stick to that amount.
Usually, a low dosage is excellent for minor ailments like anxiety. However, dogs with more severe conditions like pain or epilepsy typically benefit from a higher concentration. Depending on the severity of your dog’s ailment, the CBD dosage should remain fixed and given at specific times each day.
Additional Ingredients Added
Taking CBD oil without additional added ingredients is quite tricky because it looks like salt when the CBD is extracted from hemp or cannabis. CBD brands add other ingredients to turn it into oil, such as organic MCT oil, terpenoids, flavonoids, and phytonutrients.
Pet CBD oils are usually void of flavonoids. However, some manufacturers incorporate them into the products, so pet owners have an easier time getting their pets to consume them.
So why not just take hemp seed oil directly?
Research shows that raw extract from coconut oil, known as MCT oil, has specific properties that aid in the metabolic absorption of CBD.
Additionally, terpenoids and phytonutrients are added to increase the product’s shelf life and give it more nutritional benefits.
A pet CBD brand will customize the CBD oil to suit pets, for example, by making treats out of high-quality CBD oil or added nutrients and flavonoids.
CBD treats make the life of pet owners much easier, as no one wants to give their dog something that they do not like.
These treats are flavored to taste like fruit or meat.
Some brands also make the best CBD oil flavors without incorporating the oil into treats.
Use of Flavors and Sweeteners
The best CBD oil for dogs is usually one which is easily consumable for dogs. Several pet CBD oil brands add flavors and sweeteners to their products.
Natural flavor products are organic, such as organic hemp seed oil derivatives. CBD treats are made with high-quality CBD oils, and CBD brands then take those oils as a critical ingredient in the treats.
This makes the lives of pet owners much easier, as getting dogs to consume something they dislike can be a challenging task.
Flavors and sweeteners added to pet CBD products are completely safe and pose no threat to your furry friend.
Use of Harmful Ingredients
Organic CBD oil for dogs typically does not contain any harmful ingredients. However, some CBD oils do have propylene glycol as a critical ingredient.
It is essential to watch out for this ingredient as it is dangerous. It is typically used by CBD brands that make CBD products for vaping, and in high temperatures, propylene glycol can turn into formaldehyde. This chemical can irritate your skin and increase the risk of asthma and cancer.
All the CBD oils on our list are free of harmful components and only consist of high-quality CBD oil, CBD treats, balms, and tinctures that are entirely safe for your dog to consume.
Type of CBD Used
The best CBD oil for dogs is organic hemp seed oil. That apart, high-quality CBD oils come in two types: full-spectrum CBD oils and broad-spectrum CBD oil. The CBD industry also uses CBD isolate at times, a pretty harmless alternative, especially for pets.
Amount of THC Used
The CBD industry has a wide-ranging product list, from organic hemp seed oil to full-spectrum CBD oil. For full-spectrum products, all the components of the cannabis plants are retained, so there remains a small amount of CBD.
Hemp plants do not contain THC, so hemp seed oil is optimum for a pet owner who is looking for absolutely no THC in their products, can opt for this oil.
Less THC used keeps the CBD oil safe for dogs; therefore, hemp, broad-spectrum, or CBD isolate is the best CBD oil for dogs.
THC has psychoactive effects, which may traumatize your dog and cause them more anxiety and health issues in the long run, so it is best avoidable.
Advertised Health Benefits
High-quality CBD oil has many advertised health benefits. Research proves that CBD products can help treat your dog’s anxiety, epileptic seizures, high blood pressure, lack of sleep, and pain.
CBD oil primarily benefits neuropathic pain, which dogs tend to suffer from as they grow older. For older dogs especially, CBD dog treats are an excellent idea to keep them healthy and happy.
Quality Standards Maintained
Despite the lack of federal intervention in the quality maintenance of high-quality CBD oil, manufacturers are supported by state regulators in having their products go through extensive analytical procedures to make sure that their products are free of any harmful components, such as heavy metals, fertilizers, residual solvents, and microbiological species.
Taking CBD oil is safe only if a Certificate of Analysis is provided to the customer in the product description. This is a clear sign for dog owners that their dog’s health will be free of any harm after consuming that product.
If a product does not have a COA in its product description, it is best to avoid that product. The best organic CBD oil for dogs and CBD dog treats will all have a COA to prove their safety by a transparent and reputed manufacturer.
Third-Party and In-House Tests
Therefore, the question remains, is CBD oil safe for dogs? Third-party and in-house testing is a way to gauge the safety of these products.
Manufacturers who are dog owners often test these products on their dogs, which is testimony to their faith in the quality of the product they develop.
Third-party testing is also carried out for dog CBD oil products, and most manufacturers tend to create products that they require for their dogs, not putting any other dog’s health in harm’s way.
CBD dog treats and the highest quality CBD oil for dogs are carried out to third-party testing facilities and given to dogs, with the slightest change in their response being highly observed and analyzed.
Both quality control and quality assurance are essential factors in the CBD industry. If inter-lab results show the slightest variation in the findings of products, state regulators demand that all products are tested again.
This market remains highly regulated, so it is safe to say that your dog’s health is in good hands and is safe from any substances that might be of any potential harm to them.
When you consider buying CBD oil for dogs, you need to remember that introducing CBD oils to pets can initially be confusing. They might not be immediately responsive or acceptable to your dog, and you do not want the money you spent on CBD oil to go to waste.
Always look for dog CBD oil products that come with a refund. You might have just got hold of the best CBD oils for dogs. But you cannot possibly predict how your furbaby will take it, or even if they will. Even the best organic CBD oil for dogs is not that great in taste; hence, having a backup is excellent. When you are looking to buy CBD oils for your pet, ensure that you get hold of affordable CBD oils that come with a reasonable refund period. Inexpensive CBD dog treats are a great addition to your dog’s health plan.
Pricing and Affordability
It is essential to make sure that the price is right for your CBD oils purchase because you want to benefit from the products in the long run and not just as a temporary measure. This is right; when you are buying CBD oil for dogs and trying to identify the right CBD oil to purchase in the long term, it makes sense to keep track of the pricing and affordability of the products you are buying.
When you buy affordable CBD oils, you can ensure that you have a feasible long-term solution to keep your puppy healthy and happy.
CBD products dedicated to dogs are not generally expensive, and we have made sure that our list includes products that are affordable to most and can fit into your long-term budget. CBD dog treats are available in different varieties; many great quality ones are incredibly affordable. You can buy excellent CBD dog biscuits your pets will love from the CBD company of your choice.
Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum vs. CBD Isolate Products
Full Spectrum CBD
There are different kinds of CBD oils, and sometimes, it might be a great idea to get full-spectrum CBD oil for dogs depending on your pet’s unique and specific needs. Identifying the right kind of CBD oil for your puppy is not easy, so it might be a great idea to try out a few samples first and see what works best for them and how they respond to each. Every product that has been marked as full-spectrum CBD on our list is derived from full spectrum hemp extract. To understand the difference between CBD oils, you must know that it is essential to know how the CBD is extracted.
Full-spectrum CBD contains THCs but in safe quantities. They do not harm your pet’s health and enhance the actions of the other cannabinoids present in the oil and products. Whenever you buy CBD products for your pets, make sure that you know whether it contains full-spectrum CBD extract or not. Some pets might be sensitive to the THC content. It is best to buy a CBD tincture that does not use THC in such cases. Also, make sure that the products are extracted from the best hemp plant farms.
Broad-spectrum hemp oil is another variety of CBD oil, and it is also available as part of CBD oil for dogs. What differentiates it from the other types is that it contains other cannabinoids but not all of them like the previous variety discussed. These CBD oils are suitable for pets of all sizes and are generally well tolerated by most dogs. It will still be a great idea to get them started on a low dosage and see how they react before reaching the optimal dosage for their size and age.
If you are looking to buy broad-spectrum hemp oil, make sure that you purchase broad-spectrum organic CBD, which is much healthier for your dogs and does not cause any harm or unwanted adverse effects. You can buy CBD products made from high-quality and reliable CBD extract obtained from any organically produced hemp plant. If your pet is apprehensive about consuming CBD tincture and other products, it might be good to take it slow in the beginning.
CBD isolate is a kind of CBD oil that contains no other cannabinoids and sticks to just having CBD as the only active ingredient. This product is suitable for replacing CBD oil types for dogs that they might not tolerate well, but you want them to experience the benefits of CBD anyway. You can purchase CBD products such as CBD isolate, which helps dogs manage various symptoms and feelings of associated unwellness.
Just make sure that the CBD extract is obtained from any hemp plant grown organically, free of pesticides and other additives that affect its growth. It is not always possible to get CBD oils that are tolerated well by dogs trying it for the first time, which is why it is a great idea to try CBD isolate, to begin with.
What is Hemp Oil?
Hemp oil is a derivative obtained from the cannabis plant, and it offers a variety of benefits to general health and wellness in humans and dogs. Various CBD products can be created using both kinds of the oil – broad-spectrum hemp oil, full-spectrum varieties, and isolates. The hemp plant is the source of this oil, and it is essential to make sure that any product you purchase is manufactured by a company that has organic hemp plant farming in place so that your dogs get hold of only the very best possible value from the broad spectrum hemp oil that you give them.

Is Hemp Seed Oil for Dogs the New Coconut Oil?
Keep the Tail Wagging is supported by pet parents. I occasionally earn a commission (at no additional cost to you) when you click through an affiliate link to one of my favorite products. Thank you for your support. Read More
Not long ago, I wrote a post questioning the benefits of feeding our dogs coconut oil. Although I do agree that coconut oil has many topical benefits (I use it to heal wounds), I am curious about the claim that adding coconut oil to a dog’s diet offers many benefits.
Like others, I’m still learning and enjoy taking in all information that will help me raise happy healthy dogs. While I’m not willing to jump on the “coconut oil cures everything” bandwagon, I’m also not willing to discount the benefits of coconut oil either.
For the past year, hemp seed oil and hemp treats have been populating pet store shelves as the new natural supplement for dogs. I began to notice chatter about the benefit of hemp seeds for dogs when pot was legalized in a few states. People were worried that dog owners would confuse hemp seed, hemp, CBD, and medicinal marijuana, adding the later (marijuana) to their dog’s diet to help with common ailments, which isn’t a good thing.
Last year, one of the first booth’s I saw at SuperZoo was one that I thought created medicinal marijuana. Actually, it was a product that contained Cannabidiol (CBD) for pets and once I learned the difference between CBD and marijuana, I’ve been curious about the benefits of CBD oil for our pets.

- Great for growth and brain functions (making it good for puppies)
To avoid confusion, going forward in this blog post, I’ll refer to full spectrum hemp oil as CBD oil.
Benefits of CBD Oil for Dogs
While hemp seed oil is made from the seeds of the hemp plant, a quality CBD oil product is going to be made from the entire plant (full spectrum). Hemp seed oil has a teeny amount of CBD and not enough to affect (or benefit) your dog. CBD oil, on the other hand, is what we’re looking for if we’re raising a dog with anxiety, joint issues, or seizures.
The following are benefits of CBD oil for dogs…
- anxiety relief – calms dogs during thunderstorms, eases separation anxiety, and more.
- joint pain relief – serves to reduced inflammation and soothe the pain associated with arthritis.
- cancer – some people believe that CBD oil is effective in a cancer treatment protocol and I’ve read that CBD oil can negatively impact (positive for us) cancer cells.
- seizures – I’ve seen videos of people with seizures immediately calming after one dose of CBD oil.
This is a pretty amazing, natural treatment.
Hemp Oil vs Medicinal Marijuana for Dogs
When I started down the path to learning more about CBD oil, I thought that hemp oil and medical marijuana were the same things. When I began researching, this myth was quickly dispelled; hemp oil and marijuana come from kinda different plants. There are plants that are bred to be higher in CBD and plants that are bred to be higher in THC (marijuana). While there is THC in CBD oil, the amount is negligible and will not make your dog high.
Choosing a Safe CBD Oil or Dog Treat
I have a feeling that CBD oil is going to become the next It Thing – people will learn of all the benefits and brands will start putting it into everything. I’m going to be laughing my butt off if I see CBD oil in dog food, every other bag of dog treats, and lining our dog beds.
So how can the average dog lover tell what’s a real supplement and what’s a marketing gimmick? What about the dog treats and supplements sold in pet stores and in marijuana dispensaries? How will I know that they are safe for my dogs?
I worry that brands are in such a hurry to bring something to market, that they may be introducing something that isn’t safe. This is where it’s important to ask questions before we buy a brand.
- Where is the hemp sourced?
- Is the hemp oil full spectrum?
- Is the hemp certified organic and GMO?
- Is the hemp oil third-party tested?
- What carrier oil is used?
- Is the oil flavored and why?
These questions led me to many CBD oils and today I give my dogs CBD oil from Natural Pet Organics. I trust the brand, the oil is available on Amazon at an affordable price (less than $40), and it works for my dogs.
Back to my original question, I don’t think hemp seed oil will replace coconut oil. While it’s a great food supplement for dogs, it doesn’t have the exact same properties as coconut oil (antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal), so, at best, I would alternate the two in my dogs’ diet if I felt that my dogs needed both. For now, I’ll stick with adding coconut oil (through golden paste) to my dogs’ diet daily.
When it comes to CBD oil, I do believe that it’ll grow in popularity as more people learn about the benefits.
How can I edit my post that I noticed a few spelling errors, I wanted to correct those but don’t know how to as anything smartphone, any gadjet computer related, I am unacknowledged with..
I must have bought 40 bottles in 16 pz glass through Nutiva.Com and at around $16 a bottle, compared to.Whole Foods at $23 a bottle when they have it, obviously I’m going to buy it Amazon Prime. My golden retriever really don’t care about it, or even coconut oil. But I been buying Moringa oil as Dr. JEAN DODDS said it’s good for the gut. My girl really likes it licking it off me where I rub it into my legs and neck, face. I also drink some. I wanted to know about real butter being rubbed into her racks of lambs. She likes butter as I hate it. Would butter be a good fat for dogs as well as us? I know that it’s used with keto meal plans. I think that proportions are important and Kimberly would know of that as she knows Karen Becker and Rodney Habib with Sog CancerSeries. I will use a plastic dropper to make sure my Brandy 2 ingests the hemp oil. I can give you tips on how to get it cheaper as Nutiva is I feel a good brand.
When you get anything made with CBD Oil, please make sure that the oil was CO2 extracted, that way you avoid chemical processing. We use high quality CBD oil in all of our products that contain it. Another thing we use is organic turmeric, which has so very many verifiable healthy attributes. Just ran across a post by someone that said it helped reduce a cancerous tumor on her dog’s chest to nothing.
Tina, this did not tell me that you had replied. Sending you info now.
I’ve been learning a lot about cbd oil lately.
And mostly, I like what I see. Thank you for sharing and caring.
Yes, Dr brown also product CBD maybe it can be use for dogs, you can ask him if it can been use for dogs ok.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s amazing. Does Dr. Brown Garden create a product for dogs? I know dogs can’t have THC so I wonder if they have something with more CBD that will be beneficial for dogs with pain and/or cancer.
I never knew cannabis oil was indeed wonderful and very effective in the treatment of cancer “if not by the government and there so called rules to regulate cannabis my dad would still have been alive. Thanks to the new policy of legalizing cannabis in my state and have even lost my husband kidney, and it was really shocked and surprised when I see a lot of documentary on how the cannabis oil had helped many people to whom His family thought they never could do next undergoing several “Chemo” from the department of my heart, and I have to say a word of appreciation to Dr Brown Nelson for timely intervention in the lives of my husband suffering from kidney cancer. As I write this testimony in this blog my husband is so strong and healthy even though he have not completed the total dosage “for cannabis and medical consultation opportunity and get in touch with him if you are a cancer patient through their email: ([email protected]) so you can get more details.
I have a pretty big tolerance for marijuana, so my husband started off with a full grain of rice sized amount of oil instead of a half grain. I gradually increased the dosage every night until he reached a full gram each night. The standard protocol for Dr Brown Nelson Oil is ingesting a total of 60 grams over the course of 2-3 months, but I had 70 grams in total for safe measure. I used the excess as a topical skin care treatment, attacking the visible brown spots on hisface and neck.
3 months later, my husband cancer was in full remission. Within 4 months, my husband was free from cancer- and officially received a clean bill of health from our doctors. What they don’t know is that the majority of my treatment was using by Dr Brown Nelson Oil. I did use some of the medication they prescribed, but it was in combination with the oil.
I am elated I want to continue sharing with people who are experiencing what my husband went through that there is absolutely hope and a cure out there. They just need to be proactive and aggressive with treatment, don,t wait until it is too late. Get your medication via Email: ([email protected])
In addition to being an effective cancer fighter, there are some nice side effects that come from using the Dr Brown Nelson oil, for instance, I no longer need to take any pain killers. Just one or two drops of the oil will ease the pain and help you sleep like a baby. Best of all, its natural . . . Thanks to all the staff at Dr Brown Garden who guided me throughout this journey. You guys are awesome!
Thanks for sharing a brand, Alexander! Many of us are learning that not all coconut oils are the same and having quality recommendations is so helpful.
That would be great!
Feel free to email me any information you have…I’d love to find a natural product to help with Major’s digestive issues and bloating. Major bloats every day, but unlike many dogs…his bloat is directly related to anxiety/excitement/nervousness and not food.

Tina our CBD treats are made with superfoods and they have helped digestive issues. If you want to know about them, please let me know
Our CBD oil is infused with coconut oil onto our superfood wafers so yes, you can use the two together
In cooking and baking,COCONUT OIL maintains its nutrients even at high temperature.Or even we r making food for our pups then it has many health benefits for dogs. You can buy coconut oil at your local supermarket. Our favorite brand is TIANA fair trade Organic Virgin Coconut products.
I use CBD oil, and treats containing CBD oil, with Chester and Gretel. it helps with Gretel’s fear anxiety and Chester’s anxiety/confusion from dementia. I don’t see much use for hemp seed oil for us though since it doesn’t contain any CBD and Chester and Gretel don’t have skin conditions (for which help seed oil is good for).
I’ve been buying our CBD oil online from Pet Releaf out of Colorado. The last time (and only time) I’ve been into a dispensary was a year ago. I saw CBD treats there but no oil. I’m glad to know that CBD oil may be available on local shelves since I would like to try a few different brands.
we havea weird, Ohio cleaned up version of medical marijuana. You still cannot get the pure cannabaniod oil. Since pot is legal in your stat , you may want to ask some of the edible stores if they would sell you some cannabis infused butter.
I have some in the freezer for them and I found a recipe on Pinterest for dog and cat treats made with a tiny bit of the butter.
Let me know if it works. We have found that not all hemp oil products are of equal quality. Ours is infused onto superfood wafers. My dog is thrilled with them. He has arthritis in all four limbs
Thank you so much for sharing. I ordered hemp oil for Sydney last night and emailed the brand to see if I could pay extra to have it shipped overnight. I’m excited to get started and see any difference.
I’m a multi certified dog trainer that works with behaviorally challenged dogs. I have been using CBD with anxious dogs as well as dogs with pain and even arthritis. I have been having such good results with it that I actually became partners in the company. I know, sounds like a commercial, but it’s also true. My latest is an old Husky Shepherd mix that was having both anxiety and stiffness in his joints. His mom has been telling me how he’s not anxious anymore and he doesn’t move around so much like an old man anymore. He even decided wildlife is interesting again! CBD is awesome stuff and it is not Psychoactive. If you want to know more from me, let me know. I don’t want to turn this into a commercial but also want to make the items available if people want them.
So the hemp oil is new news to me I will certainly look into this, but so far I am pleased with the benefits of the coconut oil. It’s done wonders for their coats and also their skin. While I cannot prove it’s medicinal benefits, I can say once I started using it in their breakfast, digestive issues were no longer a problem. Granted – changing food, educating myself on proper diet all played a significant role. I would love to know if one could use hemp AND coconut oil together. Your thoughts?
There is one at my local pet store and I’m going to try and pick it up this week. I’ve been hearing great things about it for a couple months. I’ll email you the name of the product when I get it. (plus I’ll update this post too).
I’ve been researching this for a bit now…I’d love to try one of the these products for Major, as I know his digestive issues are rooted in his anxiety, and for Chance with his old-age arthritis.
I haven’t narrowed it down to a particular product…but I would love to give one of them a try.
I’m thinking of picking up some at a local store today; it’s expensive, but I’ve heard so many great things and I think one of my dogs will do well on it.
I never knew that hemp oil could be beneficial for dogs. I’ve tried coconut oil before, but I’ll definitely give this a shot now.
