Cbd oil safe for pregnant dogs

Benefits of CBD for Your Dog

Cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD, has a wide array of health benefits not just for you but for your furry friend as well. Although the compound Cannabidiol itself has many health benefits, these therapeutic benefits can be enhanced even further with the addition of different terpenes. Terpenes are simple hydrocarbons that change and alter how the Cannabidiol compound interacts in the body. Terpenes can mimic other cannabinoids giving you the same therapeutic benefits of a full spectrum oil without the need for THC-the active compound known to cause a “high or buzz.” This is also often times referred to as the “entourage effect.” By adding or subtracting different terpenes we can be much more specific in treating ailments. You would not want to take a Tylenol if you were feeling anxious or a Xanax if you were having joint pains. It is the same principle in treating specific conditions in pets.

Often times people think that CBD will only help older pets but what we have seen through research is that it can actually be very beneficial to pets of all ages, beginning with birth.

Pregnancy can take quite a toll on the body from widening hips, stomach issues, stress on joints and hips and CBD is known to help with these issues and more. We experienced this first hand when our rescue accidentally became pregnant. We gave her CBD throughout her pregnancy and during the birthing process to help with joint pain, inflammation, intestinal issues and to help build the endocrine system in her eleven healthy developing puppies.

Furthermore, CBD has been known to help with pain and inflammation in teething to the anxiousness that comes along with crate training. As the pet gets older we have seen a therapeutic benefit from the CBD with separation anxieties, lightning and thunderstorms, fireworks, anxiousness with long car rides or routine vet trips. It also helps pups that do not enjoy getting a bath, nails clipped, or other maintenance. In older dogs we see a huge benefit in hip and joint inflammation, often times allowing older dogs to use stairs or hop on the couch with ease. It also helps with gastrointestinal disorders, certain allergies, skin conditions and help reduce aggressive behaviors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are VetCS formulations safe to give my pet or horse?

Yes, we’ve done extensive testing on horses, dogs, and cats and have found no ill effects. At higher doses (5 times what is recommended on our product information), dogs and cats can have gastrointestinal disturbance directly from the amount of oil given. CBD, terpenes, and hemp extract is considered very safe and will not cause any “high” in your pet. A very wide dosing range is acceptable with CBD products. Horses do very well with the VetCS CBD products and have shown no side effects in our clinical trials even at high dosing levels (5mg/kg CBD).

Why are VetCS products the best choice for my pet?

Along with our expertise in veterinary medicine, we have a scientific approach to cannabinoid use and dosing. Our products are made from human-grade hemp extract and are tested at every stage for quality control and to guarantee no solvents, microbial contaminants, pesticides, or heavy metals exist. We are leading the veterinary hemp industry in providing independent laboratory Certificates of Analysis to assure you’re buying the safest, most consistent product for your pet.

What is the easiest way to give dog and cat VetCS products?

Most dogs and cats are reserved when smelling hemp extract products the first time. Because of our full terpene profile, there is an aromatic character to our products. After the initial response, dogs tend to like the taste and will lick the oil directly off their bowl or a clean surface. We do not recommend letting them lick the dropper as it can contaminate the rest of the oil once re-introduced into the bottle. CBD is best absorbed through the oral cavity as opposed to eating it in food. However, if your dog or cat is easier to give CBD in their food, it will still be highly effective on a treat or in food.

What is the easiest way to give horse VetCS products?

Our horse CBD hemp extract paste is the first horse-friendly product on the market! In our initial trials we found it difficult to get the oil to stay in the horse’s mouth long enough for absorption to take place! The paste is most effective when given before meals (no food in the mouth) and is a small volume which is meant to stay in the oral cavity to be absorbed. Giving the paste to horses is just like any other paste medication- except that horses really enjoy the taste! Note- our syringes are designed to start at the 200 mark on the dial (you will not receive partial tubes)!

Is the horse paste safe to give during shows?

While CBD and hemp extract are nutraceuticals and completely natural, we would avoid using CBD products while participating at recognized shows (USEF, FEI, etc.). We recommend a withdrawal time of 7 days before any recognized competition.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Even though they are both part of the cannabis family, industrial hemp and marijuana are most definitely not the same. Their chemical makeup, appearance, and cultivation environment are very different! Hemp contains LOW THC (<0.3%). Thus, your pet will not get high from VetCS CBD products. VetCS formulations are sourced from the highest quality Colorado Industrial hemp using organic farming methods. We have walked the fields and can assure you that only the best for your pet or horse.

Are VetCS products recommended by veterinarians?

Yes, we have numerous veterinarians that have helped us carry out clinical trials and have even used our products on their own pets with great results! If your veterinarian has questions or concerns, our veterinary team is happy to discuss CBD and related topics with them. Please contact us here.

Do I have to discontinue other medications that my pet receives?

No, please do not change any ongoing medications without first consulting your veterinarian. Certain classes of anti-convulsants, Gabapentin, and corticosteroids can have altered pharmacodynamics in an animal being dosed with hemp or CBD products. Always discuss any medication changes with your veterinarian. Our veterinary team is available to consult with your veterinarian and assist in any way we can.

What if I miss a dose?

We recommend giving oil products twice daily in dogs and cats, and once daily in horses. If you miss one dose, give the next dose at the regular scheduled time. There is no need to go back to a loading dose unless you’ve missed more than 72 hours of doses.

When should I notice an improvement in my pet (dog/cat/horse)?

We have seen improvements as soon as 24 hours and up to 1 week after giving your pet a VetCS product. Please follow dosing guidelines for the specific strength you have (see label or product page) by using a “loading” dose the first week, then decrease to the maintenance dose therafter. If your pet does better on the week 1 dose, it is completely safe to stay at that dose long term. If you have questions for our veterinary team, please contact us at [email protected]

I’m a veterinarian, do you have more information for me?

Yes, we encourage veterinarians to contact us and we would be happy to share our clinical experience and recommendations with you. We also have an opportunity for you to help your patients directly by becoming a VetCS partner by clicking here.
