Does CBD Oil Help Minimize the Appearance of Varicose Veins?

CBD oil has generated a lot of buzz lately. It won’t make you high, which means many are more comfortable taking it without worrying about side effects. It is known to be calming and used as a treatment for a growing host of issues. From arthritis to anxiety veins, CBD oil has been touted as the cure. There is a rumor going around that CBD oil help with varicose veins—but, does it work?

CBD Oil is Often Considered a Home Remedy for Varicose Veins

The research behind CBD oil is still in its infancy. First of all, finding a truly reputable manufacturer can be tough. Quality CBD oil might cost $100-$1000/mo depending on the strain and dispensary—and, that isn’t a bill insurance is willing to cover. Private insurance and Medicare don’t pay out for CBD oil because of federal legality issues. And second of all, like kale or coconut oil, CBD has suddenly become the natural heal-all. It has shown a reduction in seizures for children and a CBD brand was first approved for epilepsy treatment option in 2019. But, there is not much research available for many of the wild claims surrounding the product. While CBD oil may be able to help reduce chronic pain and increase relaxation, it is not going to be a long-term solution for varicose veins.

Unfortunately, CBD Oil Doesn’t Cure Varicose Veins

Varicose veins range from small spider veins to swollen, bulging rope-like veins. Those tricky disruptions are highly common (especially for women). They cause issues, like swelling, fatigue, heaviness and discomfort. If you want to get rid of varicose veins for good, CBD oil just isn’t a good use of your money. CBD oil may provide some relief from the discomfort, but it doesn’t provide a permanent solution for your varicose veins and it won’t change the appearance.

What You Can Do to Get Rid of Varicose Veins

Looking for a simple solution to get rid of varicose veins for good? You can complete a minimally invasive procedure to eliminate the veins causing issues. Procedures for varicose veins might include injecting sclerosant into each damaged vein to help them collapse. The treatment might use laser or radiofrequency (RF) to remove varicose veins. For larger or more difficult veins, a phlebectomy might be recommended. What To Expect After Your Procedure

With most of our treatment options, there is no downtime. Our patients go home the same day and are largely back to their regular activities right away. You will need to take a break from strenuous activities for a week or two. The healing process will depend a lot on what treatment you needed to remove your varicose veins. For slightly more invasive procedures, you will want a compression bandage to cover the area and someone to help you out around the house as you heal during the first few days.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound derived from the hemp plant. The therapeutic possibilities of CBD are being tested by the medical field around the world. However, it is important to note there are very few, if any, well controlled studies for individual conditions including vein disease.

CBD is a safe, non-addictive substance, unique to cannabis. CBD is closely related to another important medicinally active cannabinoid: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that causes the high that cannabis is famous for. Unlike THC, CBD does not make a person cause intoxication and lead to a euphoric “high.” This is because CBD does not affect the same receptors as THC.

How does CBD work on pain?

Importantly, the human body has a regulatory system, the endocannabinoid system (ECS), that receives and translates signals from cannabinoids. It also produces some cannabinoids of its own, which are called endocannabinoids. The endocannabinoid system plays a crucial role in regulating a broad range of physiological processes that affect our everyday experience – our mood, our energy level, our intestinal fortitude, immune activity, blood pressure, bone density, glucose metabolism, how we experience pain, stress, hunger, and more.

It is for this reason, that scientist and patients-alike are interested in mimicking and increasing the effects of these compounds synthesized by our bodies through CBD.

Does CBD have a role in spider and varicose vein disease?

In vein disease, we are most interested in the anti-inflammatory effect of CBD as well as the effect it is postulated to have on circulation. In chronic pain, researchers have compiled the results of multiple systematic reviews covering numerous small studies. Their research concluded that there is substantial evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults. Studies also show that CBD oil acts as a powerful sleep inducer that allows chronic pain sufferers to get a full night’s sleep.

Patients with severely disrupted glutamate levels often complain the most about lack of sleep. CBD oil may actually help to enhance glutamate signaling and stabilize dopamine levels to lessen symptoms of pain and another common symptom of varicose veins, restless leg syndrome.

Despite this, it is important to note two very important aspects prior to using CBD.First, these studies are still very small and do not provide any conclusive evidence of benefit. Simply, the effect of these medications have not been tested rigorously with the scientific method. Second, the effective or recommended doses are not well documented.

Thus, in using CBD, it is best to start low and work up to the minimally effective dose. Caution should be taken when using other pharmaceuticals as CBD can impact the metabolism of other prescribed medications.
