How to choose the CBD and THC Oil Vape Cartridges

Vaping CBD is a popular option for those who prefer to “smoke” their CBD oil. CBD vaporizers work like an e-cigarette, heating up the CBD oil until it turns to vapor. The vapor is then inhaled, making it one of the most fast-acting ways to get your dosage of CBD as the effective material is quickly absorbed into your lungs providing the fastest effect.A CBD vaporizer consists of two separate parts. The CBD oil cartridge (which contains cbd oil + flavoring and a heating element) and the battery. You can simply buy refills and swap the cartridge once you run out.

CBD cartridges have grown in popularity of late as a simple and mess-free way of consuming CBD at home and on the move. The surge in interest has led to many new brands and cartridge products appearing on the market. We’re going to take you through prefilled disposable CBD cartridges in this article, and not the vape juices,CBD e-iquids, lotions, dabs, pet treats, vape pens, or edibles that you would typically associate CBD with.

Disposable cartridge manufacturers sometimes style their products as refillable, although this claim is debatable. The average cartridge breaks down after around 200 draws, so to class them as refillable is slightly misleading. But one great advantage of disposable cartridge products is the USB charging functionality that they generally boost. This on-the- go charging feature ensures you never go dry.

Look out for the following when buying a CBD cartridge.

The price
Understandably, price is always an essential factor – but just because a cartridge is more expensive doesn’t stop it from being a better value buy. A 100mg CBD cartridge costing $50 is more economical than a 50mg cartridge that costs $30, since the CBD/mg cost is lower with the $50 product. When using a more potent cartridge, you’ll need fewer draws to experience the effects that you normally would.

Laboratory testing
If a CBD vape cartridge has been laboratory tested – preferably by a third-party – and the results are publicly available, you can be pretty sure that you’re buying a good CBD product. In an unregulated industry, this is sometimes harder than you’d think. Lab tests will inform you of how your CBD was sourced and the extraction method used to produce the CBD vape oil, the presence and/or percentage of psychoactive THC, and also that of other cannabis compounds.

CO2 extraction is best, especially if your cartridge is made using oil from industrial hemp. Because lots of plant matter is used in making hemp CBD oil, a clean, pure extraction method is essential, or the finished oil could contain unhealthy levels of metals and toxins that cheaper types of extraction fail to remove.

The potency
Checking the strength beforehand is critical when buying a CBD cartridge or vape pen, as otherwise you could end up taking too much or not enough. While there’s no risk of overdosing with CBD, consuming more than you need is inefficient. Regular use of CBD will result in an increased tolerance, so you may have to up your dosages or purchase stronger cartridges in time. The CBD mg/ml reading used by most companies is helpful.

You may see products at described as “full-spectrum”. CBD cartridges made using full-spectrum CBD oil will also contain various cannabinoids, terpenes and compounds that were originally present in the plant used for extraction.

Rest assured if you’re living in a state with strict laws, these products will – unless otherwise stated – consist of less than the legal 0.3 percent THC threshold. Full-spectrum advocates claim these oils allow for the “entourage effect”, making it more effective – early research tends to back up this argument.

The ingredients used
Some companies have tried to recreate the aesthetical side of smoking with vaping, making use of propylene glycol (PG) as a mixing agent, which enables the vaper to puff huge clouds. However, there are no medicinal advantages to vaping a PG mix, and in very high quantities, the substance may even pose a few health risks of its own. This will never be an issue for sensible users, but should you still have concerns, look for cartridges that use vegetable glycerine (VG) instead, or no mixing agent whatsoever.

Ingredients: Find out the exact ingredients used in your CBD cartridges. Someproducts will just contain pure hemp oil, whereas others contain mixing agents such as propylene glycol (PG). PG is used in nicotine e-liquids to help recreate the clouds produced from smoking cigarettes. While cool to look at, PG is not needed in CBD cartridges, so don’t fear buying a product without it.

Does CBD / THC Vape Oil Expire – What You Need to Know & How to Tell if it’s Time to Toss it

Hidden in the pocket of those nice “going out” pants. Tucked away in the go-to weekender bag. Wherever an out-of-sight THC or CBD vape oil cartridge may live, they can be a nice surprise during seasonal cleaning sessions. But does THC oil expire? And exactly how long does THC oil last? Sometimes the answers to these questions aren’t as straightforward as one might assume. Let’s explore the idea of THC and CBD oils’ shelf life.

Do oil cartridges go bad?

The short answer to this question is yes. But, that “yes” is largely contingent on just how long an oil cartridge has been sitting out and where. If the cartridge’s oil is still the same color and viscosity — no sludge or strange separation — as when first purchased, it’s probably just fine.

However, the oil cartridge still might’ve lost some of its potency, especially if it’s been sitting out in bright or warm environments. It’s also incredibly important to check old cartridges for any mold; even just a touch is an absolute no-go and the oil should be tossed immediately. Ultimately both THC and CBD oil can last for a very long time, but this extended shelf life is only possible under the right conditions.

Why do THC/CBD vape oils expire?

Asking how long THC oil lasts really means digging into what makes it, and CBD oil , go bad in the first place. Oxygen, time, light, and heat are the four major culprits for quickly affecting THC and CBD’s shelf life. In their own ways, each one of these elements encourages the degradation of cannabinoids, terpenes, and will even speed up the process by which some concentrates or infusions change.

  • Even the air we breathe can slowly degrade THC and CBD oils. Cannabis oils such as these often contain a lot of fatty acids that don’t play well with oxygen molecules. While maybe not the worst element when it comes to oil preservation on its own, when oxygen is combined with an abundance of sunlight or heat these elements can easily ruin a cartridge through oxidation . THC and CBD oil will expire in just a month or two under these harsh conditions.
  • Objectively, there’s no exact way to keep time from degrading oil cartridges. A good rule of thumb is to use THC or CBD oil cartridges in the first four to six months of ownership. Because it’s more difficult to control the other elements on this list, controlling the time that one is using a singular cartridge is both easy and helpful.
  • One of the most impactful elements when it comes to cartridge degradation is direct light. If intense sunlight hits THC or CBD oil, its rate of photosynthesis (at a molecular level) decreases. When these molecules break down, its tiny plant atoms break down as well, degrading THC crystals if present. This degradation , if serious, can turn THC to CBN over time — taking all psychoactive effects with it. To avoid this, cartridges should always be kept in a cool, dark place.
  • Both direct and indirect warmth can break down the THC in oil cartridges. Even simply keeping oil cartridges loose in your purse or backpack — being taken inside and outside amongst unregulated temperatures — can lead to degradation. Vape pen carrying cases can help curb this issue as well as light by encapsulating the cartridge in a safe and protected way. Anything from balmy California weather to natural body heat can shorten potency and THC / CBD shelf life.

Shelf life of vape oil and potency

The degradation of THC and CBD vape oil is tied somewhat directly to their beginning potency and ultimate shelf life. Most budtenders will agree that there’s a significant correlation between the quality of cannabis and what remains post-extraction. Terpenes usually experience a low-level of degradation through extraction, therefore impacting the taste and medicinal effects of the end product.

Concentrates and wax — products being used for dabbing — are extracted with the intention of terpene preservation. However, extractions that are used in products like edibles, tinctures and topicals may not be made intentionally for preservation and therefore have a shorter shelf life.

Removing impurities from cannabis is always the aim, but many fats and lipids in solventless concentrates can remain since they’re more difficult to remove. Solventless extractions though, produce a combination of terpenes, flavonoids and cannabinoids plus these fats and lipids. The specialized process of “winterization” can remove such materials and leave behind a purer product. This does cause some degradation and compromises the final substance. But, this is actually necessary for the making of very stable shatters, saps and sugars.

How to store vape oil

  • Try to eliminate the factors that can negatively impact the vape oil.
  • Understand which kind of THC or CBD vape oil is being used / is found to judge its usability.
  • Store in a cool, secure location such as a cupboard, bedside drawer, or even the refrigerator.
  • Remove from any well-lit areas and spots in direct sunlight.
  • Use the THC or CBD oil within its shelf life — approximately a few months depending on type.
Can old CBD oil make you sick?

No — if the proper safety precautions are being taken to confirm the oil is still good, CBD oil should not make someone sick. If there is anything concerning about how the CBD oil is being stored or appears, it should be tossed. Always air on the side of caution and consider the prime culprits of degradation: oxygen, time, light and heat, before consumption.

How do you know when CBD oil goes bad?

Consider all of the leading factors of degradation and study the product in question. Ask: How long have I had this cartridge? Has the color of this oil changed? Where has this cartridge been stored? Is there anything wrong visibly (discoloration, mold, cracks, etc.) with the cartridge? Positive responses indicate an all-clear, while negative ones suggest the product is bad and should be tossed.

Does CBD oil need to be refrigerated?

CBD oil doesn’t technically need to be refrigerated, but this act might be in the oil’s favor. Keeping THC or CBD oil in the refrigerator easily eliminates the issues of heat and light that would otherwise degrade the product slowly but surely. While oil doesn’t need to be refrigerated, most would probably argue it’s a good idea if feasible.

Does CBD oil go bad in heat?

The short answer is… sort of. Heat can be one of the most powerful forms of degradation when it comes to THC and CBD oils. The potency of such an oil can be seriously compromised if exposed to an abundance of heat, especially if it’s for long periods of time. While using such a product may not make a consumer feel bad necessarily, it probably won’t hold the same desired, full-spectrum effects as normal.

How long does THC oil last?

The answer depends largely on the individual product. It’s safe to say that when stored properly in a cool, dark environment, THC and CBD oil cartridges can easily last up to a few months. However, this time range can be vastly shortened if products are not being stored in the best of locations.

Although it can be exciting to pull out a largely untouched THC or CBD oil cartridge from those old dress pants or travel bags, it’s important to consider the necessary safety precautions before beginning or resuming use. Luckily, THC and CBD oils’ shelf life is actually fairly long if used and stored correctly. Taking those simple extra steps — like placing newly purchased back-up cartridges in the fridge for safekeeping prior to use — can make all the difference in how one can answer questions like, “How long does THC oil last?”

Funky Farms

Definitely 5 stars! Have not been able to sleep well in months and now I am. I take one at bedtime & helps tremendously!

This product is incredible. As always the packaging is world class, it gives one the feeling of getting something very special. The CBD oil a warm amber color and it is so thick it almost appears to be a resin. The flavor is extremely rich and luxurious. The effects of the product are amazing, so much in fact that it is worth the price. I have never experienced the effects in a CBD vape cart that the new CDR cartridge deliver. This is my new go to from Funky Farms. I am excited for the new rumored CDR carts in development. This CDR cart sets the bar in quality for the entire CBD industry.

Another Quality Product ! Excellent taste . Extremely calming affect . Never disappointed. Thank You Funky Farms ! 5 stars

I could feel the effects immediately just after one hit. As a chronic pain patient who suffers from debilitating migraines, joint pain, and daily fatigue, THANK YOU SO MUCH for creating the best CBD product I’ve ever experienced. After spending hundreds of dollars trying to find the brand that works best for me, it’s finally happened! FunkyFarms wins, hands down! I’m now a loyal customer!

I have been trying several different CBD vapes over the past year, including the “regular” MCT -FF carts. These are head and shoulders above anything else I have tried to date. I have been a MI Med Patient for years, and these could easily be mistaken at first take(or toke) for med THC Carts. The oil thickness, taste, and smell are where they should be as an industry standard in the future I hope. The effect is top notch for CBD and other Cannabinoids, aside from no THC of course! Only downside in my opinion is the price -although it is definitely in the competitive range as far as price per mg of CBD. I can’t wait to try the other “strains” that are listed in the test data, but not yet shown available. Thanks a ton Funky Farms for the Top Notch federally legal relief.

Absolutely love the flavor! It helps a lot with my anxiety, sleep, and stress. I’ve tried others, but always end up coming back to funky farms. Will be ordering again!

Quality pen my wife bought one over a year ago and still works great unlike many other pens you get online . I’m going to order one myself .thanks funky farms for the constant quality products

I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder . enough said. Other medications only make me groggy before putting me to sleep . not my idea of a solution. I have been taking Funky Farm for 2 months now and have found it to be extremely helpful . minus the fog and long sleep. Hooray! I take a dose each evening and that is all I need. What does it do for me? It gives me just an extra moment of time . time to calm myself and think when I first get that frightful rush of “oh no” . I am now able to to foresee that I can and will lose that sense of fear that accompanies some thought, future event etc. etc. This is definitely the work of Funky Farm Tincture. A friend told me that when you find one that works well for you . stick with it. Well, for me it is Funky Farm! And it is a life saver! I can state (to myself) my rush of fear, deal with it rationally, while remaining calm and clear headed. And I can depend on Funky Farm to have consistent quality, to arrive on time, and in a securely wrapped package. Funky Farm is a game changer. Thank you!

I first found these gummies in my neighborhood smoke shop. I had tried a few of the fancy -looking, gimmicky shaped gummies & then when they were out of them I bought these & I’ll never buy those others, again.

For the price, this product is extremely effective. They are pricey for 5 squares of gummies, but they’re powerful & they work, immediately. I have autoimmune joint issues, this helps so much with my pain & im so grateful I found this product & company. I am now a regular customer and purchase online, monthly. I recommend completely. No gimmicks, just good, strong product & the flavors are All So Good. My personal favorite is grape, but I buy them all!

I ordered on a Thursday and it arrived on Monday and thankfully was packaged well because USPS apparently thinks fragile means to smash the box. I’ve had trouble unwinding enough to get to sleep and just 4 or 5 puffs of Granddaddy Purple was enough to help me relax and fall asleep. Within 5 minutes I was asleep and woke up the next morning feeling great. I recommend it for anyone who can’t quite unwind enough to get to sleep and stay asleep.

CBD has helped me successfully stop taking benzodiazepines. It works wonderfully at reducing anxiety! Also it reduces joint & muscle pain I have. I take it daily and I’m doing so much better. Thanks Funky Farms! Love the fast & FREE shipping! Love the taste. Way better than the last brand I used that tasted like grass lol.

The grape gummies (50 mg cbd) taste like grape popsicles . they are not too sweet, very chewy in a good way, and although I was a bit iffy about hemp, the grape very definitely made my anxiety recede. I am diagnosed PTSD, and I have a panic disorder . have been on benzos for years and can now go for days without taking any. The grape calmed me and with no stoned feeling, just calm and relaxed able to function and stay on track. Yum !

Funky Farms are the best vape carts, hands down and I have tried them all!
I like this flavor a lot. It tastes more like vanilla mint than chocolate mint to me, but it’s delicious. The minty terps make it really refreshing and uplifting. Hybrid that was good for throughout the day.

Funky farms is the only brand use. The tangerine peach is my fav! I usually get the 1000mg cuz lets face it. mama needs her cbd. I havent tried the blueberry gelato and it looks good. Blueberry pancakes are blueberry redbull is my everyday snacks and I would love to add some blueberry gelato to the mix.

Your products have seriously changed my life. I have more motivation and energy, and given me strength through my chronic Illnesses even on the bad days where it hurts to get outta bed!
