    Why Vape CBD?

For those who smoke cigarettes, vaping CBD is increasingly being considered as a worthy alternative. The FDA cautions against explicitly labeling it a “safer alternative,” though vaping does expose smokers to fewer toxic chemicals than cigarette smoking.

Even if you’re not trying to replace nicotine, there could be plenty of good reasons for you to opt for vaping one of the 10 best CBD vape oils on today’s market.

Maybe you want to get a daily dose of CBD in the quickest way possible. Vaping is believed to deliver CBD to the body much more quickly than other methods of consuming CBD.

When consumed through edibles or via pills or capsules, the CBD takes time to be broken down and absorbed by the body. It also puts it at the mercy of the “first pass effect,” taking some potency out of the mix as the stomach’s acid breaks it down.

Vaping, on the other hand, allows you to inhale CBD directly into the lungs, where it’s quickly absorbed and transported through the body. The beneficial effects can be felt almost immediately.

Anxiety or panic attacks can come on suddenly and unexpectedly. If you rely on CBD to bring your emotions back down to a manageable level, you’ll want the CBD to get to work quickly. Vaping is the only method that can get you results in the moment rather than with patience.

    Can You Get Disposable Vapes?

You can! If you’re new to vaping CBD and interested in trying it out, a disposable vape pen might be a good first stop.

But proceed with caution. Given the current state of our planet, shop disposables in moderation. Disposable vape pens, by nature, can’t be reused or recycled, so they just become trash. If you decide you like vaping, try to reduce the waste you produce with your CBD ritual. A happy Earth provides us with healthy hemp.

Since we know you’re ready to get started on your CBD journey, here are our choices of products to get you started off on the right foot.

Is it Safe to Vape CBD?

The science of vaping ensures us that it’s safer than most other methods of smoking. Nicotine is a known danger to the lungs and throat, and even smoking marijuana comes with its own risk of carcinogenic exposure (although research suggests that cannabinoids can work against cancerous cell generation, whereas nicotine promotes it).

But when it comes to CBD vape oils, what are you getting out of the mix?

What’s the Downside to Vaping CBD Oil?

Vaping CBD oil can get it to your body quickly and safely—which sounds like there’s got to be a catch.

There is, but it’s a mild one: easy come, easy go. CBD hits the receptors and gets to work fast, but the effects of vaping CBD oil will wear off more quickly than consuming an edible or taking a capsule.

The 10 Best CBD Vape Oils

    1. Hemplucid Tincture Vape / Drip

Streamlined ingredients and a customizable level of potency make Hemp Lucid our most preferred all-around CBD vape oil, and our #1 pick of the 10 best CBD vape oils.

A big selling point for vaping CBD is that it gets to work quickly—if it has the potency and purity to do the job. Hemplucid’s Vape Tincture/Drip is quality assured and as potent as you want it to be.

The extract is made with the whole plant, producing a full-spectrum hemp extract. The entourage effect is at play here, calling on CBG, CBN, and THC to help boost the effects of the dominating cannabinoid of hemp: CBD.

An oil always needs a carrier, and Hemplucid uses organic vegetable glycerin. The other ingredient is polysorbate 80, a water-soluble substance used as an emulsifier.

These ingredients are both considered generally safe for inhalation.

This hemp oil is simple and streamlined. It’s not flavored, and it doesn’t contain any unnecessary ingredients.

As far as the dose of CBD goes, Hemplucid gives you options. The lowest option available is 150mg of CBD, but it goes up incrementally to 1500mg per 30mL.

    2. Hemp Bombs CBD E-Liquids

A variety of flavors and THC-free hemp extract make this CBD oil the tastiest isolate available—and truly fitting for anyone.

The Hemp Bombs’ vape oil (or E-liquid, as they like to call it) comes in a crazy amount of flavors. They keep it sweet so you can enjoy the experience, and offer you Mix & Match packages to test out a few.

The hemp extract is blended with a 70/30 vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol mix. Propylene glycol is categorized by the FDA as generally recognized as safe, so you’d need pretty potent amounts for it to do you any real harm.

As for the hemp extract itself, all Hemp Bombs’ vape oils are THC-free.

The flavors are a little off the mark from traditional, but they cover pretty much everything to ensure you’ll find something you like. Crushed Pineapple Paradise, Roasted Colombian Coffee, and Arctic Spearmint Blast are among their options. If those sound enticing to you, or if you want to branch out to check out one of their other exotic and exciting flavors, get a Mix & Match package. The variety of options, as well as the quality and purity of Hemp Bombs’ products, gives their offering one of the top places among our choices for the 10 best CBD vape oils.

    3. CBDfx CBD Vape Juice

CBDfx creates an affordable, trusted, and great-tasting vape formula with non-detectable levels of THC.

Take your pick of juicy fruity flavors and CBD impact. The CBDfx vape formula uses PG and VG to carry their organic, USA-made hemp extract that’s full of all the necessary cannabinoids.

If you feel like you need an extra boost, even from their 1000mg option, get a side of terpenes with your purchase.

The Blue Raspberry flavor is their most popular, for its sweet and juicy flavor without the tell-tale blue tongue.

CBD is the star of these formulas. The entire series is made with isolated CBD extract. Test results provided for each potency prove that the concentration of all other cannabinoids is so low that it’s undetectable.

    4. Pure Hemp Botanicals Vape Juice

Choose one of three refined flavors to enjoy this full-spectrum vape experience.

Option paralysis in the face of boundless CBD flavors can be a crippling decision for some.

Bananas Foster, Red Dragon, Piña Colada—those are your options when you shop the Pure Hemp Botanicals vape juice options.

What you’re also getting is a big vapor cloud, ensured by the VG/PG mix.

They also keep the miligram opportunities to a relatively simple selection. The standard size is 500mg, which is a pretty generous amount of CBD, and it always has a maximum of 0.3% THC.

The second formula is a double punch, delivering 1000mg of CBD per bottle.

The hemp extract here is made with organic, Colorado-grown hemp plants that also provide terpenes.

    5. Highland Pharms HEMP Plus Vape Oil

We apologize but Highland Pharms has discontinued their CBD Vape Oil Products

A PG-free vape oil with all the beneficial hemp compounds in familiar flavors.

Highland Pharms also keeps it simple and stripped down to the essentials. They’ve axed the addition of PG in their formula, relying only on VG and polysorbate 80.

They also make sure to clarify that their hemp oil isn’t just CBD. The extract keeps all the integrity of the plant present, giving you cannabinoids and terpenes from organically-grown hemp.

Long story short: this CBD oil is full spectrum.

The original flavor is strawberry, but you can also get the juice in mint or with the plant’s natural essence without any additional flavoring.

Highland Pharms also found a way to get some flavor from the same natural source as the extract. Terpenes help create the Maui Wowie and Amnesia Haze flavors that you can also enjoy with the HEMP Plus Vape Oil.

    6. cbdMD Vape Oil

A standard formula vape oil made in a simple trio of flavors without THC.

The team at cbdMD keeps their vape oil simple with familiar flavor options of mint, orange, or vanilla. They use natural ingredients to make these flavorings, which are blended with the CBD-rich formula.

This vape juice is made with the VG/PG blend that’s common throughout the vaping community. This one, in particular, is also completely THC-free

The potency of the CBD content varies depending on what you need. The PG/VG formula is made from organically-grown American hemp and comes in 300mg, 750mg, and 1500mg options.

This vape oil sounds comparable to some of the aforementioned brands. So what sets it apart? Well, it comes with added built-in savings of free shipping anywhere in the U.S. and a 30-day money-back guarantee. It’s quality, familiar flavors, and guarantee pretty much guarantee cbdMD a place on our list of the 10 best cbd vape oils.

    7. Palmetto Harmony Aura CBD Vape Oil

A no-nonsense CBD vape oil enhanced with terpenes.

This bottle from Palmetto Harmony brings you 300mg of full spectrum vape oil in a 30mL bottle.

Why does it stand up against its rivals? Well, the Aura CBD Vape Oil is made with the same high-quality ingredients as all of their products: USA-grown, organic hemp.

The oil preserves all the integrity of the plant and its accompanying cannabinoids, creating a full-flavor oil with a strong terpene profile.

It’s blended with vapable vegetable glycerin, avoiding any of the potential hazards of polysorbate 80.

If you want to test the waters before you buy this bottle, you can reach for the 15mL size instead. Both sizes are straightforward and flavorless, so you get the soothing anti-inflammatory benefits of CBD and absolutely nothing else.

    8. ECODRIP Vape Additive

High-potency CBD vape juice additive that can give you an added boost when you need it.

CBD Drip seems destined to make a worth vape oil by their name alone.

CBD Drip is the parent company of ECOSciences, which has its own line of high-potency vape juice. The ECODRIP Gold and Platinum additives are intended to enhance the CBD vape oil that fills your device.

This full spectrum CBD vape juice is unflavored, and a little goes a long way. Just a few drops can be added to your vape pen along with the oil you usually vape. The company brings little additional information to their product page, but ensure they’re up to standards with accessible lab reports.

These high potency CBD oils are made with the right smokable ingredients, but may serve you best if used to enhance the experience you’re getting from lower concentrations, like what CBD Drip offers through their line of flavored AKUA vape juices.

    9. Try the CBD Vape Oils

All of the most beloved strain flavors of the cannabis plant, without the THC.

Some experienced hemp smokers may recognize the flavors that Try the CBD brings to their CBD vape blends.

Gelato, Grand Daddy Purp, Pineapple Express, and OG Kush are a few of the options you can turn to cloud, without any danger of an impending high.

The downside of their formula is that they use MCT oil. These oils, like sunflower or coconut oil, act as successful carriers of CBD. They’re often (and likely) what’s in most of the CBD oil you buy that’s intended to be used sublingually.

As far as its safety and efficacy goes during inhalation goes, the jury is still out.

    10. Koi CBD Vape Oil and eJuice

For high-quality CBD oil in even distributions of CBD isolate throughout the day.

The CBD eJuice from Koi CBD touches on all the integral points of a quality CBD oil. They use a VG/PG blend to deliver CBD isolate in smooth, tasty puffs. The hemp plants the CBD is extracted from are always pesticide free, and their extraction method is solventless.

The extraction here is a major component because of the separation of CBD from the other active ingredients. This oil delivers nothing but cannabidiol, so you won’t have to worry about the extras that could be detected in a drug test.

The 30mL bottle come in different concentrations, letting you tailor your CBD dosing to what fits you best. Koi recommends that first timers wait about 3 hours on their first try, to see if the effects need altering.

All their products are koi branded by color, but you can use your candy-eating experience to guide your palette. For instance, Red Koi is Strawberry Milkshake and Pink Koi is pink lemonade. Flavorless is also an option, which you’ll get with the White Koi selection. Koi CBD’s smooth delivery, fun flavors, and high quality make it a great product to round out our picks for the 10 best CBD vape oils.

    How We Compiled The List

Several companies are rushing to make the most of the increased popularity of the CBD. However, not all of them will give you the experience you are looking for. So, after thorough research, we have made a list based on the following factors.

    What We Looked For

    • Cost: The most significant factor to consider in any product in any market is the cost. CBD cartridges range from affordable to expensive, depending on the brand and quality. Cartridges are one-time investments; it’s, therefore, advisable to get value for your money.

Brand Reputation: On the top list of our research was brand reputation. Many companies parade as having the best products. However, most don’t meet the needs of the consumers, nor do they deliver what they promise. Only reputable brands deliver what they promise; thus, reputation was a significant factor in this listing.

Customer Reviews: There is no better way of testing a product’s credibility than the consumer’s views. A good brand should have positive reviews from most of its consumers. Credible companies don’t shy away from availing their products for public review. All the brands listed in this article have positive customer reviews on their official and third-party review platforms.

Ingredients: The main reason CBD cartridges are gaining popularity is their benefits to health and wellbeing. The ingredients used in a product are essential, and our list of CBD cartridges contains natural ingredients and flavorings.

Third-Party Lab Testing: A good product should be transparent in its production process. CBD cartridges being a sensitive yet popular product, you should be keen on their safety and credibility. Having proof of authenticity is therefore crucial in determining the best CBD cartridges.

Flavor Variety: Having different flavors speaks a lot about the brand. A wide range of flavors helps new users choose their favorite cartridge while freely transitioning from one cartridge to another.

Buying Guide to the Best CBD Cartridges

Getting quality cartridges can be easy for seasoned vapors because they know what to look for and what they want. For a beginner, however, the process might not be as simple. There are many brands and long lists of flavors, and here are some factors to consider when buying a CBD cartridge.

    • Extraction Process

There are three primary ways of extracting CBD from hemp. They are CO2 extraction, steam distillation, and solvent extraction. Steam distillation and solvent extraction are common in the industry but are not guarantee the best extraction process. Cartridges made from the extracts gotten through this method are low-quality. CO2 extraction, on the other hand, produces the purest hemp extract for the most refined CBD products.

    • Customer Reviews

The best way to know the quality of a product is through the views of first-hand users. A CBD cartridge can meet all the requirements and pass all tests but has terrible reviews. There are several sites dedicated to reviewing CBD cartridges. Go through them and make sure the products you settle for actually back their claims.

    • Cost

Price is a huge determining factor in selecting the best CBD cartridges, and quality cartridges are relatively expensive. This, however, doesn’t mean that all highly-priced cartridges are safe and efficient. Settle for reasonably priced cartridges that will give you value for your money.

    Brand

The rising demand for hemp products has seen a surge in brands that claim to be the best manufacturers of CBD products. Most, however, don’t have legitimate backing to their claims. Your health is,this, in safer hands with well-known and established brands. They build their reputation based on quality and safe products, and most of them also have a Certificate of Analysis to prove it.

    • Money-Back Guarantee

Brands have a money-back policy to show their confidence in the efficacy of their products. However, you might not get a full refund on returning the goods. There are companies whose policy is to deduct shipping costs before refunding. Check the refund conditions on the product you want to buy before settling for it.

    • Laboratory Testing

CBD cartridges aim to provide a relaxing experience for vapors. It is crucial not to overlook the safety of products before purchasing them. Always make sure that the cartridges you buy have gone through independent testing. In addition to quality and safety, third-party testing ensures that the right concentration of CBD and other ingredients, if any, are delivered.

    • Cutting Agents

Cutting agents are dilute vape liquids that affect the overall strength of the vaping solution. Although it will look adequately filled, the CBD concentration goes down, meaning you puff a lot for the same effect. Therefore, you should avoid cartridges that use CBD oil, MCT oil, PG, PEG, or VG oil as cutting agents.

    Ingredients

The manufacturer’s ingredient label has rich information on the cartridge content. CBD cartridges can have natural terpenes or food-grade flavors. Always go for natural terpenes. Check if the cartridge is pure or contains additives—the more refined, the better and safer. Your needs must, however, determine your choice. Go through the product’s ingredients and choose what works best for you.

    • Customer Service

You must buy from a brand that prioritizes customers’ needs and has an active customers support team. Many times you may have questions about your purchase or need clarifications. Having a company’s representative or agent, you can get answers from. The brands we reviewed have functional support teams available 24/7 to attend to your inquiries.

Frequently Asked Questions On CBD & CBD Vape Carts

    Q1. Are CBD cartridges legal?

Hemp products that include less than 0.3 delta-8 THC are legal in most states but not all. Manufacturers, therefore, tend not to ship their products to states such as Arizona, Alaska, and Utah, where the consumption of hemp or cannabis products is illegal.

    Q2. Are CBD cartridges safe?

There is no substantial evidence that shows the threat of CBD cartridges on human health. However, chemical substances and extraction processes can have some side effects. It’s therefore essential to ensure that the product you are using is thoroughly tested for safety and has a Certificate of Analysis badge.

Q3. Can beginners use CBD cartridges?

Yes. Most CBD cartridges accommodate both beginners and seasonal vapers. You don’t need experience or lessons to use them. Most of them come with simple user guides. It’s, however, advisable to start with pre-filled disposable cartridges because they are easier to use.

Q7. How should I store my CBD Cartridge?

CBD cartridges are durable and are easy to store. However, it would be best not to expose your cartridge to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. Store them in places without direct heat as this will break down the THC hence lowering its efficiency.

    (15%-25% off with code “CHILL”)

CBDfx is one of the most widely-recommended CBD brands regardless of the type of product, and their CBD e-juice is no exception. The brand offers nine flavors: five with a more vape-like flavor and the remaining four using terpenes to produce an authentic hemp flavor.

Our specific pick is the Blue Raspberry, which has more of a vape-like flavor but it hits the intended notes extremely well, and the 500 mg CBD version (at 16.7 mg/ml) does a really good job when it comes to effects. I vaped it through the day and it provided a pleasant undercurrent of calm that allowed me to get by stress-free.

    • 500, 1,000 or 2,000 mg of CBD per 30 ml bottle (16.7, 33.3 or 66.7 mg/ml) look clean – fully tested for pesticides, solvents, heavy metals, and mycotoxins : A+
    • Price isn’t expensive but higher than others in the list – $0.07 per mg
    • Not good if you want other cannabinoids too
    • Small bottle shape may be difficult to hold for people with a disability

The 3,000 mg is a great option if you want to minimize your vaping or if you need to use a lot of CBD for things like sleep and anxiety. Blue Dream is a blueberry flavor that gets the authentic flavor across, while having a calming yet focusing effect.

If you’re looking for cheap CBD vape juice, there are quite a few options out there (including Just CBD), but our pick is Savage CBD. The juice works out at just $0.02 per mg of CBD (although there is technically a “sale” on, it seems to be permanent). For such a good price, you might be expecting a disappointing e-juice, but it’s fantastic.

The flavors are well captured – Passion in particular – and the higher strength especially hits hard in terms of effects. You feel it straight away and are left with a powerful sense of calm that you just have to top up through the day.

    • Seven excellent flavors to choose from
    • 250, 500 or 1,000 mg of CBD per 30 ml (8.3, 16.6 or 33.3 mg/ml)

Best CBD E-Juice for Anxiety: Plain Jane

Although most CBD is good for anxiety – because relaxation is one of the main effects – some do a better job than others. Plain Jane gets our pick for best CBD vape juice for anxiety, and it’s pretty affordable too at just $0.03 per mg of CBD. They have four flavors available – Strawberry Cheesecake, Tropical, Blue Razz and Green Apple – which are all vape-style but executed really well.

Blue Razz is our pick, but Strawberry Cheesecake is also excellent. They all have 1,000 mg of CBD in a 30 ml bottle (33.3 mg/ml strength), which works really well if you’re also looking for a strong CBD e-juice. Soon after vaping you’re hit with the calming effect and it sticks with you for hours.

Best Full Spectrum CBD E-Juice: Funky Farms

    (15% off with code “FIRST15”)

Although it’s difficult to find full spectrum CBD vape juice, there is a fantastic broad spectrum option from Funky Farms. They offer two flavors – Blueberry Gelato or Peach Tangie – in either 250 or 500 mg for the 15 ml bottle (16.7 or 33.3 mg per ml), with some CBC and CBN in the mix too.

The amounts are smaller than you’ll find in some cartridges, but it’s still enough to differentiate it from the CBD-only options. The effects are soothing, leaving you feeling relaxed and content, and the Blueberry Gelato especially is delicious.

    • CBC and CBN as well as CBD

    • Lab reports/COAs available
    • Frequently runs out of stock
    • Other cannabinoids are only in very low amounts
    • Some people say it burns their throat
    • Only 15 ml bottles

    Best THC-Free CBD Juice: Koi

    (15% off with code “ORACLE”)

Most CBD vape juice is THC-free, but Koi CBD has one of the best examples you can find. They offer six excellent flavors that can still really pack a punch in terms of effects. Our pick is Blue Raspberry Dragon Fruit, but Vanilla Caramel Custard is also delicious.

The effects depend a lot on your chosen strength (with options of 8.3 mg/ml, 16.7 mg/ml or 33.3 mg/ml), but for the lowest strength they were quite mild but definitely calming as I vaped through the day. The flavor has a fruity sharpness that works really nicely as a CBD vape juice flavor.

    • CBD isolate vape juice

Best PG-Free CBD Vape Juice: Blue Moon Hemp

    (20% off with code “THANKYOU20”)

If you’re looking for a PG-free CBD vape juice, there aren’t many options. The problem is that you need PG to dissolve CBD isolate, so the best you can do is something with low PG. Blue Moon Hemp have met this need perfectly: combining 70% VG with a corn-derived version of PG at 30%.

They offer five different flavors, including two hemp options (Pure and Kush) and three vape-style flavors (RedDevil, Flan and Mango Moon). Kush earns our pick, for both the authentic flavor and the 33.3 mg/ml potency. The effects hit quickly and are ideal for easing anxiety and even helping with pain.

    • As close to PG-free as you can get without MCT
    • Both terpene-derived and vape-like flavors available

    • Lab reports/COAs available
    • Bottles labeled with CBD strength in mg/ml
    • “Broad spectrum” technically but the amounts are very low
    • No choice of strength
    • Only tested for potency – no safety checks

    Best Tasting: Pachamama

    (15% off with code “CBD15LIFE”)

Pachamama originally got started as a nicotine e-liquid company, but after branching out into CBD e-liquid they quickly became one of the best CBD vape oil brands for flavor. Strawberry Watermelon is the perfect example of this, combining two complementary fruits to produce something simple but realistic and delicious.

It either comes in 250 mg (8.3 mg/ml) or 500 mg (16.7 mg/ml) of CBD, which isn’t as strong as some, but it still offers a strong enough effect to keep you relaxed through the day. The flavor is the biggest selling-point though – it really can’t be beat.

    • Excellent flavor
    • 250 mg (8.3 mg/ml) and 500 mg (16.7 mg/ml) strengths
    • Good price of $0.04 per mg
    • Gentle, calming effect
    • CBD isolate (no THC)
    • 30 ml bottles
    • Lab report/COAs available
    • Colorado-grown hemp
    • Not too strong – a 1,000 mg option would be good
    • No other cannabinoids
    • Not tested for safety, just potency
    • Supplies often limited

How We Tested the CBD E-Liquids

Testing makes or breaks a list like this. While some CBD vape juice flavors might look good on paper, the reality of the situation is sometimes different. Maybe the flavor doesn’t come through as much as you were expecting, maybe the balance of components is off, and maybe the CBD doesn’t have as much impact as the strength suggests it should.

That’s why the choices on this list were based on extensive, unbiased first-hand testing.

Our team independently tested over 15 CBD vape juice products to recommend the best options available. Photo: CBD Oracle

After putting together a big list of the options that are out there, especially the most recommended options, we set about comparing them. This includes taking into account the mg/ml of CBD, the cost per mg of CBD, and a general investigation into how transparent the company is with things like lab reports.

Once we’d settled on a shortlist of 15 different CBD e-liquids, we got a bottle of each and put them to the vape test. After spending at least a day vaping each, we eventually settled on the finalists.

Most of the testing was done on the same tank – a sub ohm vape tank – but we also had a pod system on hand for the ones we could confirm were 50/50 PG/VG.

Guide to Buying the Best CBD E-Juice

If you’re interested in picking up some CBD vape juice but might want to go beyond the options above, learning the basics about choosing good CBD e-juice is a crucial step.

In particular, it’s good to know what to look for and what to avoid when you’re shopping, how long a bottle is likely to last and how to work out things like the strength you’ll need. Luckily, this is all quite straightforward once you’ve covered the basics.

    What to Look For

    • Total CBD: One of the most important things to establish is the total amount of CBD in the e-liquid. This tells you how much you get in each ml of e-juice (simply divide the total by the number of ml in the bottle). If you know roughly how much CBD you need per day, you can use this as a basis for your calculations.
    • PG/VG ratio: The amount of VG to PG is an important thing to check. Generally, higher PG levels will work better with simpler tank systems, and carry flavor better, but they can be harsher on your throat. Higher VG makes smoother vapor and bigger clouds, but thickens the mixture, so you’ll need a sub ohm tank or similar to vape it well.
    • CBD isolate?Broad spectrum? Most CBD vape juice is what’s known as “isolate.” This just means that the only thing you get is CBD, with no extra cannabinoids in the mix. “Broad-spectrum” extractions include other cannabinoids too. Generally the amounts of these are lower than the amount of CBD, but the others complement the CBD through the “entourage effect.” Isolate is good, but if you want more than just CBD, broad spectrum is a great choice. THC is also included in “full spectrum” extractions.
    • Terpenes or other flavors: Although terpene-flavored CBD vape juices aren’t as common as you might expect, there are options that produce a cannabis or hemp-like flavor by incorporating them. If you want something more “flavored” – tasting like fruits, desserts or anything like that – you should go for a non-terpene CBD e-juice.
    • Source of the hemp: After the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, farmers in the US have to follow safety guidelines when producing their hemp. This makes US-grown hemp a great option, but other options (like European) are also good. The main thing is that you should be able to find out easily – if you can’t see where it’s from, choose another juice.
    • Lab reports/COAs: The company you buy from should have lab reports available to check. While testing for cannabinoids to ensure purity and labeling accuracy is good, the best reports also include safety tests (for things like residual solvents or pesticides).
    • Reputation: It’s best to check around online before you buy CBD vape juice from a company. Ideally, choose a company with a good reputation, including both positive reviews of the product and positive things about the company themselves. If a company has a lot of people complaining, there is probably a reason behind it.

    Things to Avoid

    • MCT or other oils: CBD vape “oil” is a misnomer. You should never vape actual oil, because it can lead to lung issues or even conditions like lipoid pneumonia. So your CBD vape juice shouldn’t contain MCT, coconut oil or any other oils or fats. PG and VG aren’t perfect, but they don’t lead to this type of issue when inhaled.
    • Unknown companies: A company nobody has heard of might be a hidden gem, but they probably aren’t. If you can’t find much about them online, you’d be better off choosing a company with a good track record.
    • No lab report/COA: If there’s no lab report, you can’t confirm that what you’re buying is what they’re claiming, and so any company without them should be avoided.

    Can You Vape CBD Oil?

CBD Oil and CBD Vape Juice are two different things. If you want to vape, make sure to get “CBD Vape Juice” and not “CBD Oil”. Photo: Koi

CBD oil – meaning, a tincture of CBD – is not intended for vaping. CBD vape juice usually contains VG (vegetable glycerin) and PG (propylene glycol), because these are easy to vaporize and assumed to be reasonably safe to inhale.

The key difference is that CBD oil uses oil or fats as a carrier for the CBD. If you inhale something with fats and oils, it can cause lipoid pneumonia and other lung issues. In short, the long-chained molecules get caught up in the networks of your airways and cause trouble, especially as they accumulate. Although some companies may use coconut oil or MCT in a CBD e-juice, you should not use them – unfortunately the companies aren’t always well-informed.

So for CBD oil vs. CBD vape juice, there are key characteristics of each:

    CBD Oil
    • Is intended for sublingual (under the tongue) or oral use
    • Contains MCT, coconut oil or usually other fats/oils
    • Is not suitable to inhale
    • Often has a hemp-like flavor from terpenes
    CBD Vape Juice
    • Uses PG and VG
    • Doesn’t contain any fats, just the carriers, CBD and flavors
    • No major issues for inhalation
    • Usually flavored like fruit or dessert
    • Can also be used as a tincture (although it isn’t usually that pleasant)

How Does CBD Vape Juice Make You Feel?

CBD vape juice can have varying effects, depending on the dose, if there are other cannabinoids present and your personal reaction to CBD. That said, if you have some CBD e-liquid, it will probably just contain CBD and the most common effects are:

    • Relaxation
    • Comfort
    • Reduced anxiety and stress
    • Pain relief
    • Mood improvement
    • Tiredness/sleepiness (in high doses)
    • Alertness (in low doses)

Of course, this is just a list of generic effects – your subjective experience of it may differ. For example, the most notable effect for me is the relaxation, like an undercurrent of calm sticking with me after vaping. But if you’re experiencing pain, for example, the pain relief will probably be the biggest difference you notice.

How Long Does CBD Vape Juice Last in Your System?

You might be wondering about two (related) things here: how long do the effects of CBD vape juice last, and how long will the CBD be detectable in my system?

The effects of CBD last for between one and six hours, depending on the dose you take, your specific physiology and the method you used to consume it. Vaping is generally faster-acting and quicker to end, so you can expect to feel the effects within ten minutes (as little as a few minutes) and it to last for a few hours.

For how long it will be detectable in your system, Vaping360 points out the differences between half lives between oral use (a tincture or capsule, say) and for inhaled aerosols. Research suggests that the half life for aerosols is about an hour and a half (technically between 1 and 2.4 hours), and it takes 5.5 half lives for something to clear your system. This means it takes between 6 and 12 hours for CBD to completely leave your system. However, this could easily be longer if you consume regularly or large amounts.

How Much CBD Can You Vape Per Day?

There are again two separate issues here: firstly, what’s the recommended daily dosage of CBD, and secondly, how much can you vape safely?

In theory, you can vape at least up to 1,500 mg of CBD per day without issues. The number for you might be higher than this, or you might start to get some unpleasant symptoms at much lower doses than this. The most common symptoms of taking too much CBD are dry mouth, nausea, stomach issues like diarrhea, drowsiness and disorientation or dizziness.

This isn’t really likely to happen though. Firstly – and most importantly – any generally recommended dose of CBD will be much lower than this. Most people start on between 20 and 40 mg per day, and increase gradually from there as needed. Secondly, actually vaping that much CBD per day would be a challenge: you would have to get through a bottle and a half of 1,000 mg e-liquid, likely about 90 ml of CBD e-juice.

How Much CBD E-Liquid Should You Take Per Day?

The above recommendation of 20 to 40 mg per day to start is good. Then increase as needed if you feel you need more after a week. Use your own judgment, but it’s better to increase slowly if you’re going above 40 mg – by 5 mg a week or so.

This does vary, though, depending on your metabolism, the condition you’re treating and tons of other factors. If you have anxiety or sleep issues, for instance, a higher dose has been shown to be effective, but there isn’t enough evidence to settle on a precise number. Most real-life CBD surveys show that higher daily doses are fairly rare: in one example, 55% of CBD users took less than 50 mg per day.

What Strength CBD Vape Juice Should I Get?

Choosing a CBD e-juice strength seems like it would be pretty straightforward, but you need to take bottle size into account. Unfortunately, most CBD vape juice sellers list the total amount in the bottle without a breakdown in terms of mg per ml or a percentage. Simply put: a 1000 mg bottle of CBD e-liquid means 33.3 mg/ml if it’s a 30 ml bottle and 16.6 mg/ml if it’s a 60 ml bottle.

You need to think about this and how much you want to actually vape each day to make your decision. For a 30 mg daily dose, the 1000 mg in a 30 ml bottle option would basically mean vaping 1 ml per day. For the 60 ml bottle it would take 2 ml to get the same dose.

Practically, you can base this decision on the size of your tank. If you have a 2 ml tank, getting a 1000 mg / 60 ml is OK, because you can get a reasonable dose if you get through a tank a day. But if you want to vape less – which is a good idea, strictly speaking – you could go to 1000 mg / 30 ml (or, equivalently, 2000 mg / 60 ml) to get the same amount of CBD from half a tank.

Generally, for a 30 ml bottle, up to 300 mg can be considered low potency, up to 600 mg as average potency and 1,000 mg or more a high potency.

Are There Any CBD Vape Juices With Nicotine?

Despite both nicotine and CBD e-liquid being very common and easy to find, there aren’t really commercially-available hemp vape juice that combine the two. However, you can certainly do this yourself if you want to. Nicotine shots are pretty common in the US/EU, and there’s nothing to stop you from adding one to your CBD e-juice. Some people do recommend against it (since the effects are contrary to each other), but overall there is no strong reason beyond preference to avoid doing it.

Can You Make Your Own CBD Vape Juice at Home?

You can easily make your own DIY CBD vape juice at home, but you’ll need to gather some ingredients first. You’ll need:

    • Propylene glycol (PG)
    • Vegetable glycerin (VG)
    • CBD isolate (≥99% pure)
    • Flavorings (terpene based or vape juice flavors)
    • Blunt-tipped syringe
    • Accurate scale (down to 0.01 or 0.001)
    • 30 ml (or 60 ml) empty bottle

Most of these things can be found at vaping stores online, although you may need to find somewhere else for the scale and the CBD isolate. Isolate is important because you can’t mix oils into something you’ll be vaping.

    The process is pretty straightforward:

    • Measure out either 500 or 1000 mg (0.5 to 1 g) of CBD isolate. This depends on the strength you want the final liquid to be.
    • Add 15 ml of PG and mix. CBD isn’t soluble in VG, so you need to mix thoroughly with PG first before combining. You want it to be mixed well enough that you can’t see crystals in the mix anymore.
    • Add 12 ml of VG, mixing well again.
    • Choose whichever flavorings sound good to you and add 3 ml of them to the liquid, before giving it a final mix.

You can adjust most of this to suit your needs. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG mix works quite well, but this means you’d need to add the flavorings (usually PG-based), 12 ml of PG and 15 ml of VG. If you make the VG percentage much higher than that, you might have issues with the CBD dissolving properly, and it won’t work as well with simpler tanks. However, it can work if you have a sub ohm tank or anything with efficient wicking.

Can You Put CBD Tincture in Vape Juice?

CBD tincture is an oil, and so – despite misleading phrases like “CBD vape oil” – you can’t safely vaporize it. This is why in the instructions above you need isolate: pre-made CBD oil will contain something you can’t vape. If you mix the CBD tincture with vape juice, it might technically “work” depending on the precise amounts, but it still isn’t a good idea.

How Much Does CBD Vape Juice Cost?

The cost of CBD vape juice is pretty variable, but you can expect to pay anything from 2 to 10 cents per mg of CBD. In practice, this means that a 500 mg bottle of CBD e-liquid will likely cost about $20, although it could be as high as $50. In most cases, though, when you find CBD vape juice with a higher price per mg, it’s more that the amount of CBD per bottle is low rather than the bottle cost being high.

As an average, 500 mg of CBD in a 30 ml bottle will probably cost around $25 to $30.

TrytheCBD has the strongest CBD vape juice (at 200 mg/ml), but this uses MCT oil which may be dangerous to inhale, so CBDfx (66.7 mg/ml) is the best choice.

Funky Farms has the best full spectrum CBD vape juice, offering CBC and CBN in addition to CBD. It’s technically broad spectrum though, since it’s THC-free.

CBD e-juice costs anything from $0.02 to $0.10 per mg of CBD. A 500 mg bottle will likely cost around $25.

    Conclusion

CBD vape juice is getting more and more common as people grow to accept CBD, but the sheer volume of competition makes finding a good one more challenging. The good news is that most of the options out there today are pretty good, customers now expect lab reports (and so companies provide them) and juices crop up to meet most preferences. Prices are also impressively low. So with a few recommendations and – most importantly – an understanding of what to look for when you shop, you’ll have tons of excellent options to explore.
